How does your space make you feel?

A problem shared is a problem halved, so they say. It also means that any task can be accomplished twice as fast! If you have a project to tackle which you cannot face or keep putting off then it may be that you just need some help to get going and another pair of hands.

I have helped people who had a deadline for moving, have helped unpack the entire contents of a container from overseas, sorted out rooms in a hoarded house, and many other smaller projects which were too difficult or overwhelming for someone to manage alone.

It is also a lot more fun to do these things with someone who is engaged, optimistic and on your side. I love the practical side of sorting things out and tidying up but I also have lots of useful skills acquired over many years. I have a law degree, have worked in finance, run a business, am a qualified counsellor and have volunteered for a bereavement charity. So I know when a piece of paper is important just as much as when a battered old teddy needs to be kept! And I won’t nag.

I love a decluttering TV programme as much as the next person but I am not about minimalistic living, styling your home or setting up electronic diary systems. I don’t live my own life like that. But I do understand the value that simplifying your life can bring. Being able to put your hand on your car keys. Finding the document you need instantly or the book you want to read. Choosing from a wardrobe rather than a floordrobe. 

You may have inherited someone else’s possessions and that can be difficult. You may need to downsize and have trouble letting anything go. You may be entering a new phase of your life unwillingly. Whatever your situation, think about whether this might be easier with another person working alongside you, talking through the choices, helping to make the transition easier.
